LOCALS ACKNOWLEDGED AT THE 2008 OXLEY COMMUNITY AWARDS

Over 55 local champions were today acknowledged at the Oxley Community Awards, Federal Member for Oxley, Bernie Ripoll said today.

The recipients were awarded for a diverse range of community activities from services to sport, music and the arts, education and the local community.

“I was honoured to be in the room with so many of our local treasures.

“The work these individuals do every day is inspiring to everyone and shows that community spirit is indeed alive and well in our local area” Mr Ripoll said.

The Oxley Community awards combined three major Commonwealth Awards including the Australian Volunteers Award, Australian Government Sport Achievement Award and the Certificate of Appreciation Program – Overseas Aid Workers.

“This was the perfect opportunity to say thank you to our ‘unsung heroes’ and acknowledge their achievements, inspiration and assistance in making our local area the great place we live in today.

“I hope this awards ceremony will continue to grow and provide an avenue for those that make a significant contribution to our local area to be duly recognised” Mr Ripoll said.
