assistance to the newest members of our community is receiving the support they need," Mr Ripoll said.
Funding will be provided to conduct a comprehensive program to assist refugees and migrants strengthen their connection to the wider Australian community through cultural orientation and information sessions on health, employment and housing.
Mr Ripoll said that part of the funding will be dedicated to a mothers group to provide advice and build friendships between nearly arrived refugee and migrant women.
“Funding will also be provided to assist the Burundian community to develop an arts and crafts interest group. It is vital that the newest members of our community receive the support they need in the difficult transition to a new place and culture,” he said.
Funding through the Settlement Grants Program is aimed to assist refugees, family sponsored migrants and the dependants of those on skilled migration visas with low levels of English.
