IPSWICH MOTORWAY UPDATE

The Ipswich Motorway is one of the worst stretches of the national highway network in the country and is certainly the most neglected.

The Ipswich Motorway is an important part of the National Highway system as well as being a major road that services south-east Queensland. Funding for any maintenance and construction of the Ipswich Motorway rests 100% with the Commonwealth Government.

It consistently rates highly in RACQ’s annual ‘Red Spot’ survey, which identifies trouble spots on Queensland’s roads.

The Roads Solution report commissioned by The Courier-Mail

found that commuters on the Ipswich Motorway have a 50 per cent chance of striking an accident or experiencing significant delays on any day of the week. But locals who travel on the road every day don’t need reports telling them that it’s in a terrible state and needs urgent attention.

One person who’s been demanding action for years is Bernie Ripoll who has been calling on the federal government to fund an upgrade since before he was elected to Parliament.

This section will provide up-to-the minute news about the ongoing traffic problems that plague the western corridor and which will once again be the key election issue in the region at this years federal election.
